Dion Jordan Powell community leader and 2020 candidate for the NYS Assembly 79th District in the Bronx, New York. Mr. Powell is a 80s baby born and raised in the Bronx. He has a Master’s Degree in Public Administration with a specialization in Public Policy from Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY). His Bachelor’s Degree is in Media / Communications with a specialization in Film / Video from the City College (CCNY) of New York of the City University of New York (CUNY). While here, he didn’t realize his political career would start with the extracurricular activity of student government which is the first in the country. He was the executive vice president and also represented CCNY as a delegate to the University Student Senate (USS).
Later on he helped start the Bronx Young Democrats and became the Chair of the Caucus of Color for the New York State Young Democrats. Mr. Powell was the community liaison to the Bronx for NYS Assemblyman Michael Blake for 3 years bringing information, services, and resources to our community. In early 2019, he decided to run for the same position because the position will most likely become vacated in 2020. His economic development plan on his platform, which he is currently working on Religious Real Estate and the Return to Community Banking. He believes that with all the real estate the faith based community owns in the Bronx, which they bought for pennies back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, plus uniting the community’s small businesses, home & property ownership, finances, and voting, we can fight gentrification. This is why he does outreach for the New Covenant Dominion Federal Credit Union to get the people to return to the concept of community banking.
